The Miracles of Reiki
After recovering from a broken/pinned arm, my ten year old son had been left with a locked elbow. He had some movement and a physiotherapist was helping him with exercises to try and free it up. However just before Christmas (having already been doing physio for well over two months) I had got the feeling that it was becoming tricky to find exercises he could do that would help, and they had suggested two months off and see "what he did naturally" by himself. Well as a mum I wasn't prepared to let that "be it", so I started thinking of other possibilities.
So I spoke with Jill Sudbury at the Wellbeing Clinic about whether or not Reiki would help (I had previously had Reiki so was aware of its possibilities) and Jill agreed it would definitely help in some way. However we both agreed a whole hour probably wouldn't sit well with a 10 year old active boy!. So Jill suggested the Monday night Reiki drop in might be the way to go.
Well, firstly I would like to say what a friendly bunch the Monday night crew are, they made my son and I feel very welcome.
Then came the healing! ............
Whilst still doing physio exercises, we started attending weekly Reiki drop in :-
A session probably lasted about 15 minutes and I would say that after about three weeks I suddenly noticed that when we were doing the physio exercises that his muscle in the elbow joint started feeling more spongy, more stretchy if you like. It was fantastic, it made doing his exercises much less painful, and piece by piece, week by week, his arm began to straighten, and by the time we went back to the physio in February, those wonderful words "he no longer needs to have physio, his arm is as straight as a normal ten year old" were spoken. I truly believe we would not have got to that point without the Reiki. (As an added bonus I had 15 minutes myself each week - ahhhh bliss).
As I write this note, we are due to see the consultant at the end of March, whom I am quite sure will be signing my son off as 100% fit. We also continue to attend drop in on alternate weeks, I go for some me time one week and my son goes the next for continued support on his arm (he has come to enjoy it so much he doesn't want to stop!).
So my thanks go out predominantly to Steve, but also to Julie, Joyce, Mike, Esmay and all the other volunteers (so many beautiful people to mention) who give up their Monday evenings to give something back - thanks all.
